How It’s Played
3 short paragraphs taken from the RULES section of old website.
URBAN HUNT is a thrilling and innovative scavenger hunt where teams work together to solve puzzles and complete a series of challenges. In this game, teams receive a clue sheet that takes them on an adventure throughout a city or town. It is up to each team to solve the clues on their own or with the help of family and friends, to successfully complete mental and physical challenges, and to navigate their own route. Then it’s a race to the finish line!
Teams can solve the clues by using their own navigational aids, by calling family and friends, or by asking strangers for assistance. Many racers have helpers at computers that can look up information on the internet and help them over the phone. If teams get completely stuck, they can call roadside assistance to get help from the URBAN HUNT organizers, but will receive time penalties. Teams must only travel by foot or public transportation, including the metro, subways, and buses.
At clue destinations, teams complete challenges. Challenges may range from taking a team picture at a location, solving a specific answer to a question, and completing mental or physical tasks. Once teams believe they have successfully completed all of the clues and challenges, they must travel to the designated Finish Line to have their answers checked by the URBAN HUNT organizers. The first team to cross the Finish Line with the most amount of accumulated points and fastest time is crowned the winning team of URBAN HUNT.

Our most popular event by far, and one of the easiest and most fun for large sized groups is Urban Hunt! From large corporations to birthday and bachelorette parties we have run Urban Hunt events all over the country! What we love most about Urban Hunt events is we can run them in any city or town for any group size and every time we run them our clients have a blast solving puzzles and clues while exploring. Here’s a look at some of our favorite Urban Hunt events:
Client: Turner Broadcasting
Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: 3 hours
Participants: 50 (Teams of 4)
Turner approached us to create a fun-filled team building event in downtown Chicago for their staff of over 50 people. We traveled to Chicago, spent 3 full days scouting out the city and turning some of the best spots into an exciting course of puzzles and challenges. Turner employees were so excited to spend time outside of the office and in their beautiful while city solving clues to earn the most amount of points. The event was loved so much by the staff that Turner hired us back to plan and run an entirely new course from scratch again! We especially loved doing this event in Chicago because it took Justin back to his hometown roots, where he ran his first adventure game when he was 15 years old.
Client: Optimatic
Location: New York City, NY
Duration: 3 hours
Participants: 30
Optimatic, a company that offers top tier media campaigns for clients, came to us wanting to spice up their traditional company meetings by throwing their staff into an interactive adventure with one another. We traveled to New York City where we spent 3 full days scouting and creating the event course. New York City is the perfect spot for Urban Hunt dreams! We were excited to take the Optimatic employees to lesser known neighborhoods where teams had to work together solving clues. Maximizing the subway system we were able to create a course that took the teams all over the city. This was a special client for Pete who started his game roots in New York as a teen. The Optimatic team had so much fun that they hired us back several more times over the subsequent years.
Client: Yelp!
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Duration: 5 hours
Participants: 400 (four 100 person events)
We were approached by Yelp to create a series of Urban Hunt events for Yelp users in Los Angeles. We designed two completely separate courses which included stops in Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Chinatown, Olvera Street, and Little Tokyo . We encouraged the Yelp teams of two to dress up in fun costumes and teams delivered.
Client: Shalhevet High School
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Duration: 2 hours
Participants: 40
Shalhevet High School wanted to do something special for their outgoing senior class during Senior Week so they hired us to create an URBAN HUNT event for the students. They wanted it to take place in Santa Monica, CA so we designed a course that took them to some of Santa Monica’s most iconic landmarks such as the Ferris Wheel and Pier, but also off the grid to lesser known spots. The event was also designed without the use of public transportation so everything was easily walkable (or runnable) for the students. The high school seniors said it was the highlight of their senior week which showed because Shalhevet hired us multiple times to continue the tradition for its students.
Reviews of Urban Hunt

Justin planned an awesome night of scavenger hunt chaos in Hollywood for my boss’s birthday party. He was so kind and went with the flow when our dinner ran over beforehand. He was also flexible in letting us start the scavenger hunt late in the evening, which is why we ultimately picked him over the competition. I wish our group had been able to start the hunt a little earlier so that we could have gotten more time to do the challenges, but hopefully I’ll get to participate in another Reality Rush event soon. It was hilarious to see everyone get so sweaty and competitive, and we all had a great time. – Jessica B.
And I thought I knew Los Angeles!!! The Urban Hunt that I did with Reality Rush was truly an experience. It was well organized and totally unique. I saw so many new parts of LA and the whole time I was full of energy. Even though we came in 46th place I still felt like a winner!! I would definitely do it again. – T. F.
AMAZING!!! After participating in my first Reality Rush game, I am now addicted!!! And everytime, the organizers always know how to challenge me mentallly and physically. Besides that it’s the best way to tour LA and meet new friends!!! and the closest thing to competing in a reality tv competition. If you’re thinking about doing it, stop thinking and just go for it. I guarantee, it’s the best way to spend an afternoon! – Evangeline Fabia
If you love scavenger hunts, this is definitely a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday and get to explore some of downtown LA as well! It’s a lot of fun seeing all the great costume ideas, hanging out and chatting with people, and then doing all the silly things they have you do on the actual hunt. It was worth it for me seeing some of the places in downtown that (I’m ashamed to say) I’ve never even heard of after living here for 5 years! – Kevin T.
My college BFF and I participated in the Urban Hunt in LA. It was definitely one of the most fun experiences I have ever had! The game was well-organized and I saw parts of LA I had never seen before. We were completely exhausted at the end of the race, but had a lot of fun sharing “war stories” with our fellow racers over margaritas at the end of the day. I would DEFINITELY do it again! – Carla M
My wife and I have done this twice — downtown and Hollywood — and it’s been a blast! Very well organized; fun, clever clues and challenges; and a great way to explore the city. We tried a different scavenger hunt in Pasadena and it was nowhere as good as Reality Rush. Definitely plan on dressing up as a team and keep an eye out for them on Groupon — that’s how we got our first pair of tickets 🙂 – Mario R
